Give chargesheet in the language which the accused understands: High Court

Chandigarh | The Punjab and Haryana High Court has made it clear in a case that the accused in a criminal case has the full right to defend himself. In such a case, the charge sheet should be made available to him in a language which he understands. The High Court rejected the argument of the Punjab Government in which it was said that the lawyer of the accused understands the Punjabi language. In such a situation, there is no need to provide a copy of the charge sheet in Hindi. A petition was filed on behalf of Jhajjar resident Gaurav stating that the case against him is pending in Sangrur. In Jhajjar, Hindi language or Devanagari script is used for communication. In such a situation, he does not know the Gurumukhi script or the Punjabi language.
